Where to apply and what to ask

We have not yet been able to verify marriage requirements from an official TRNC source, so there is no definitive document list here. Before applying, call the municipality's marriage office and ask about the current requirements.

   You apply to the municipality

   Marriage applications are made to the marriage office of a municipality, usually the one in the town where you live or where the ceremony will take place.

   Call first, then go

   Before you go, ask by phone for the list of documents and whether you need an appointment. Tick the questions below to build your own list.

   Foreigners: prepare documents early

   You may need documents from your home country. Translating and certifying them takes time, so start early.

   Recognition in your country

   Ask your country's consulate or authorities what is needed for the marriage to be valid there too.
