Can I work while studying in Cyprus?

Rules, permits, traps

Working on a student permit depends on separate permits and rules. Working without permission can put your residence permit at risk. Get the correct information from the Labour Department and your school's student office.

Before you start working

  • Ask your school's student office whether and under what conditions you may work as a student.
  • Find out from the Labour Department whether you need a permit.
  • Ask the employer whether you'll work with insurance and a permit, and get it in writing.

Traps

  • Don't trust an agency's "you'll study while working" promise; check with your school.
  • Don't pay an employer who asks for a "permit fee".
  • Don't leave your passport with an employer.
