Driving licence

Driving on a foreign licence and converting it to a TRNC licence

Rules can change. Before applying, ask the Driving Licence Inspectorate of the Revenue and Tax Department for the current requirements.

Are you a tourist?

While you are a visitor, you can drive with the valid licence issued in your own country.

If you have a residence, work or student permit

From the date your visitor status ends you must convert your foreign licence into a TRNC driving licence. Driving without converting it can get you into trouble.

We help with your driving licence

Apply to us to convert your foreign licence to a TRNC licence; we'll guide you through every step, from the application to the driving school.

How to convert your licence

  1. 1

    Apply with a petition

You apply in writing to the Driving Licence Inspectorate of the Revenue and Tax Department.

  2. 2

    Traffic rules test

You take a test on road traffic rules and pay the legal fees.

  3. 3

    Learner licence and driving school

With a learner licence you train for at least 5 days under a driving school instructor: 8 hours in daylight and 2 hours at night.

  4. 4

Get your licence with the course certificate

With the certificate showing you finished the course, you receive a 5-year TRNC driving licence.

Ask before you apply

  • Are the original and a copy of my passport and residence permit enough?
  • Do I need a certified Turkish translation of my foreign licence, and where do I get it?
  • In which language is the test held?
  • How much are the fees?

If you lose your licence

Report it at the nearest police station in the area where you lost it.
