How many months of rent do landlords want up front?

Vom Fragesteller gewählt

There's no fixed number; it depends on the landlord and the area. Landlords often ask for several months' rent in advance, one month's agent commission and one month's deposit, and rent is usually asked in sterling. Before paying, see the flat yourself, sign a written contract, have the contract say when and under what conditions the deposit is returned, and get a receipt for every payment.
